When I used to live in the city, I’d see more neighbours in the winter shovelling than in the summer (unless they were out gardening). My husband has fond memories of his parents and neighbours drinking coffee on the front porch after dinner while the kids played in the front yards on the street.Īt some point, social areas shifted to the backyard entirely.
